During the first six months of the year 2018 the number of illegal migrants to Ukraine increased by 22%.
This was reported by Oleg Slobodian, Press-Secretary of the State Border Service, RBC-Ukraine reports.
At the same time, he noted that the number is not critical.
“For the first half of the year, we are already seeing an increase in the number of illegal migrants, both on the legal and “gray” entry channels, by somewhere around 22%. We are not a supplier of illegal migrants to the European Union, but this is already a trend and we need to get prepared for a further increase of the illegal migrants flow in order to be able to contain it”, Slobodian added.
Earlier it was reported that in the near future Ukraine may face the problem of a sharp increase in the number of illegal migrants who will be trying to get into the European Union through the territory of the country. This was stated by the head of the State Border Service Peter Tsyhykal.
It should also be noted that the head of the European Frontier Service Frontex Fabrice Leggeri expressed concerns about the emergence of a new refugee route to Europe. He stated that more and more migrants are coming to Europe using the route from Morocco to Spain.
